Harness your skin’s amazing healing abilities
Microneedling is a minimally invasive and nonsurgical solution for treating acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage and more.
Also called collagen induction therapy (CIT), microneedling increases collagen and elastin production in the treated areas using the body’s natural wound response. By strategically directing the body where to send healing factors, microneedling can provide anti-aging benefits without using synthetic products or overly invasive procedures.
At Levitt Medical Aesthetics, Dr. Scott Levitt offers microneedling treatments to his patients in Albany, OR using the SkinPen®, the only FDA-cleared microneedling device. With a series of microneedling treatments that target your skin blemishes and imperfections, Dr. Levitt can help you look and feel refreshed, youthful and more self-confident.

How it works
As skin ages, its production of collagen and elastin decreases.
These structural proteins are pivotal for keeping skin tight and vibrant. With a lowered production of collagen and elastin, skin loses its natural elasticity and develops wrinkles, fine lines, and other common signs of aging. Microneedling works to rebuild the top layer of the skin by increasing collagen and elastin production in the targeted areas.
Microneedling purposefully induces the body’s wound healing response by tapping into natural systems already in place. It involves no synthetic products in the process, just the SkinPen device and the body’s own nutrients and healing factors. The SkinPen is made with a series of medical-grade needles that only puncture the skin enough to take advantage of the body’s wound response process without causing actual injury to the skin.
During a microneedling appointment, Dr. Levitt uses the SkinPen to create microchannels underneath the epidermis, prompting the body to send nutrients and healing factors to the treated area. No actual wounds are created by the treatment, as the depth of the SkinPen’s medical-grade needles is strategically controlled to keep the procedure safe and comfortable. As a result, the body remodels and rebuilds the underlying collagen and elastin structures to generate smoother and clearer skin.

What to expect
Most patients require a series of three to five microneedling treatments spaced out about one month apart each to achieve optimal results.
The number of appointments required depends on the condition of the patient’s skin at the start of treatment and their desired results. We can control the depth of the SkinPen’s needles and adjust according to each patient’s needs. Dr. Levitt works with each of his patients to develop a personalized microneedling treatment plan that meets their desired results in as few sessions as possible.
Downtime is minimal after a microneedling appointment, and patients are free to resume most normal activities following treatment.
Typically, patients choose to take the rest of the day off from work because of skin redness and other minor side effects. Strenuous activities and sun exposure will need to be avoided for the rest of the day. You may apply makeup and sunscreen the very next day to cover up any remaining redness and protect the freshly treated skin.
Results will begin developing following the first treatment, although most patients will need at least a few appointments before truly experiencing visible improvement.
Final results will take at least three months to develop fully, depending on how many treatments the patient undergoes.
Once the skin has healed following the last treatment, patients can expect to enjoy their newly radiant and youthful complexion for up to six months. Microneedling counteracts the effects of aging, but it does not stop them completely. Results will gradually fade over a period of several months as the natural aging process continues. Microneedling can be repeated as necessary for maintained results and vibrant skin year-round.

FAQ
With its versatility as an anti-aging and rejuvenating skin treatment, microneedling can benefit adult patients of any age. Microneedling is among the most effective minimally invasive procedures for treating acne scars and wrinkles. Most patients make great candidates for nonsurgical microneedling treatments, as microneedling can be performed on all skin types. Patients with active facial wounds or acne breakouts may need to wait for their skin to heal or for breakouts to subside before beginning treatment.
Dr. Levitt applies one of the strongest topical numbing creams available at the start of the microneedling procedure, keeping his patients comfortable throughout the duration of their treatment. To begin treatment, Dr. Levitt passes the SkinPen handheld device over the skin’s surface, addressing areas with wrinkles, uneven skin texture or facial blemishes. The SkinPen creates microinjuries in the treated skin, directing nutrients and remodeling to the designated areas. Each treatment lasts about 30 minutes to one hour.
As a minimally invasive procedure, microneedling does not require much downtime or create overly uncomfortable side effects. The skin will appear and feel a bit irritated after treatments, similar to the feeling of a mild-to-moderate sunburn. Other common side effects include dry and flaky skin that may develop a day or two following treatment. Most side effects dissipate within a few days, especially with the aid of moisturizers and hydrating skin products.
Diligent at-home skincare and healthy habits help extend the life of your microneedling treatments at Levitt Medical Aesthetics. If you follow our post-care instructions carefully, use high-quality skincare products regularly, drink plenty of water, and avoid sun exposure (and wear SPF 30+ daily), you give your skin the best chance to continue to look radiant for as long as possible.
