How it works
BBL™ stands for broadband light therapy, which is the most advanced form of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.
This treatment delivers wavelengths of light into the underlying dermal layers, restoring and rejuvenation the dermal structure from the inside out. This FDA-cleared, innovative technology gives us the edge to address even stubborn pigmentation and vascular lesions without anesthesia or recovery time. In just a few treatments, you will achieve a complexion that is clearer, smoother and more youthful.
This mode of skin rejuvenation addresses symptoms of aging and sun damage to produce a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.
The light used during this treatment stimulates the body’s own restorative processes, triggering collagen production and cell renewal at a deeper level for a full transformation on the skin’s surface.
This device is the only one that has shown in clinical studies to change the gene expression associated with the aging process to reverse the effects of time on your complexion.
Additionally, Levitt Medical Aesthetics is the only practice in the region to have upgraded to the new BBL HERO® (High Energy Rapid Output)! This upgrade allows us to treat you faster, safely deliver more energy to your skin, and get better, more even results than any other device on the market. We are now able to treat your arms, back, or entire chest in just a few minutes.
At our Albany, OR office, we perform photofacials with Sciton’s Forever Young BBL device.
What to expect
During the procedure, the handpiece glides across the treatment area delivering the light pulses to the appropriate locations.
You may feel a warm snapping sensation as the light penetrates the skin. Most BBL treatments take just about 20 minutes to complete, depending on the size and number of areas you want to address during your appointment.
Patients can usually apply makeup and return to their activities as soon as the treatment has ended.
You may notice some redness or flushing of the skin, which should subside within a matter of hours. In the days following your procedure, you might notice brown spots that were targeted become darker. This color change is because of the melanin rising to the skin’s surface. Once that occurs, usually within a couple of days, the spots will peel off and you will see clearer blemish-free skin.
You will need to carefully protect your skin from the sun for at least a few days since freshly treated skin is particularly vulnerable to burning.
While you will probably see positive results after your very first treatment, patients with more severe damage may discover that a series of appointments work best to achieve optimal results. Dr. Levitt will discuss the right treatment plan with you at your consultation after assessing the condition of your skin and hearing your aesthetic goals for the procedure.
Before & after
FAQ
BBL Photofacials are appropriate for men and women that have concerns about the health and appearance of their skin. The device is safe and effective for most skin colors but is not recommended for recently tanned skin. If you are on photo-sensitive or blood-thinning medications, you will need to talk to Dr. Levitt before undergoing treatment to ensure the procedure will not cause unwanted side effects.
The number of treatments needed will vary from patient to patient, and Dr. Levitt will personalize a treatment plan based on the level of improvement you desire. We may also combine your treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment. You will, however, see results after just your first treatment!
The procedure is non-invasive, typically gentle, and safe. The sensation is most often described as similar to a rubber band snapping the skin. Pro-Nox (laughing gas) is available for patients who would like to be more relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.
Technically, any area of your body can be treated with BBL. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight, however. The most popular treatments are on the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, and shoulders.
